In September, 2003, a 54-year-old female teacher was admitted to the department of neurology in Innsbruck with a 1•5-year history of insomnia affecting sleep onset and maintenance. She reported daytime sleepiness with unintentional sleep episodes at work. Colleagues reported that she had been found sleeping on the floor and they could only wake her by shaking her intensely. Her husband reported loud snoring, frequent talking, and hand and leg jerks during sleep. She complained of hoarseness, dysphagia, and mucous obstruction at night.
